 Guidelines for Audition Recordings

  • Since this is the only chance for the student to be heard, the quality of the recording should be of utmost consideration. The quality of your recording will affect the evaluators’ ability to review and comment. A high quality audio and video recording is expected.
  • State your name, age, school you attend, and years of musical experience at the beginning of your audition recording.
  • Review your recording(s) before you submit to check the sound level and ensure the best audio quality.
  • Only unedited recordings can be accepted, and should be in high fidelity stereo.
  • Be aware of the acoustic environment in which you record. Background noise and poor sound quality make your recording difficult to evaluate.

Specific Requirements By Section

Audition requirements for winds will include: three one octave major scales, one octave chromatic scale and excerpts from “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa, below for your use.

You do NOT need to submit different applications, just include the multiple videos on your online application.

If you would like to audition on all four percussion instruments, therefore giving yourself the most options to be considered for the drumline for th Honor Band, submit your audition videos for all parts and indicate the order of your preference.

If you only audition on one percussive instrument, you will only be considered for that instrument. you will not be shuffled to other instruments, unless you have specifically submitted addition audtion videos.

All percussion applicants must mark time during their audition, and the video MUST show the whole body. Make sure both hands and feet marking time are visible in all videos.
