Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!
Name: Kyle Schultz
Hometown: Ballwin, MO
Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?
I applied because someone I knew applied, and because the band was pushed back a year to 2022 I could apply and tryout.
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
It’s my first time on the West Coast, so I’m excited to see everything that California has to offer.
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?
Dedication, repetition, and subdividing the counts.
To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?
Football games and doing competitions were my favorite part. Meeting everyone and having school spirit is something I’ll never forget.
What activities and clubs are you involved in?
I march for the Parkway West Marching Band, as well as do sportscasting.
What are your post-graduation plans?
Hopefully go to a 4 year college and study film making.
Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?
I attended the 2019 Bands of America Grand Nationals, as well as planning on attending the St. Louis Super Regional.
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I did color guard for my freshman and sophomore years before going into percussion my junior and senior year.
