Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!

Name: Jenna Greenawalt

Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?

I applied because I knew people from my school who marched in the 2017 Honor Band and I wanted to do the same! I also knew this would be a great opportunity to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime ensemble.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?

I’m excited to meet everyone, make new friends, and work with other musicians from across the country!

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?

I have learned personal accountability, dedication, and leadership skills.

To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?

I have so many amazing memories from being involved in my high school music program that range from going to band competitions, to the late night bus rides, or even the long Saturday rehearsals spent learning new drill, but one of my favorite memories is the BOA Mid-Atlantic regional trip in 2019. I was in 8th grade and it was my first year in the marching band. I spun with the color guard that year. We rode the bus to Maryland and that was my first regional! We performed in prelims and finals and I remember getting back to the hotel and finding out we were co-champions with the James Madison High School marching band. The next day the band went to Washington D.C. and it was so much fun being with my friends and going to the different museums. That trip was so special and it was a great time spent with my second family.

What activities and clubs are you involved in?

I play viola in the high school select orchestra, and during the winter months I’m a member of Norwin Scholastic World guard.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I’m not sure yet. I know I want to continue performing/playing my instruments after high school, but I haven’t decided beyond that. Maybe something to do with being a history teacher, music performance or education, or being an elementary school teacher. I’ve also always liked the idea of being an airplane pilot!
