Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!
Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?
This was a band that my band director performed in when he was in high school, and when he brought it to my attention, I immediately wanted to be a part of it. I also wanted to experience something that not many people can say they’ve done!
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m excited about the parade itself, but I am also excited to perform in Disneyland. I marched with my high school band in the parade during my freshman year, but I am so excited to do it again!
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?
Practice makes permanent, not perfect.
Band is a team activity, not an individual activity. It takes everyone’s time and dedication to make it work.
Band is your family. You start out as individuals doing something you love. Then, spending so much time with everyone, and experiencing the tough times together makes us all closer, and we come out of it as one big family.
To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?
Marching in the Disneyland parade during my freshman year or having all of the spirit days during evening rehearsals on Mondays.
What activities and clubs are you involved in?
Marching band, Symphonic band, and Link Crew.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I am planning on attending the University of Arizona to study Elementary Education or Nursing.
Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?
This is my first time!
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I have played trombone, tuba, baritone throughout my musical career, I am a drum major at my school this year, and I marched in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year!
