Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!
Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?
I saw the Honor Band experience as an opportunity to expand my musical experiences, meet new people, and visit California for the first time.
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I am most excited about marching in the Tournament of Roses Parade and becoming immersed in the excitement of the spectators as the band marches down the street.
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?
I’ve learned that music can unite young people by providing a language that we can all understand. I’ve seen first-hand that music can help people deal with life’s transitions. As a result of those lessons, I have learned that I want to pursue a career in music performance.
To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?
Marching band camp the summer before my senior year is my favorite memory. This year, my high school marching band combined with another high school band in the school district to form a larger unit. I got to experience a new camp under a new director and make a whole bunch of new friends. I was honored to serve as trumpet section leader and one of the drum majors for the band’s inaugural year.
What activities and clubs are you involved in?
National Honor Society – serving as secretary and treasurer; Girls Varsity Tennis; Milford Theatre Company – pit musician; Marching Band – drum major and trumpet section leader; Bugles Across America – sounding Taps at military funerals
What are your post-graduation plans?
To attend a university or conservatory and study music performance. After that, I want to travel the world playing in music ensembles. Eventually, I would like to live in New York City and perform with the New York Philharmonic.
Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?
I participated in the 2021 Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana with my high school marching band.
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I have been a member of Bugles Across America since 2019. I honor those who have served the country by sounding Taps for military funerals, Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
