Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!
Name: Kaitlyn D’Amico
Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?
I applied to the Honor Band with my sister as a fun thing to do together as a family.
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m most excited to get another chance to perform with my little sister, Mary Anna.
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?
I’ve learned the value of patience, perseverance, and water. Hydrate or diedrate y’all!
To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?
My favorite marching band memory was my band’s finals performance at FMBC State Competition in 2019. It started raining halfway through the show, and thanks to our many marching practices in the Floridian rain (courtesy of our director, Mr. Darragh) we pressed with no problems. I’ve never felt prouder than I did standing there at the end of the show, soaking wet in my wool uniform and dinkles, with my best friends in the world.
What activities and clubs are you involved in?
I am proud to be a Cambridge AICE student and am currently involved in Windermere’s awesome band program, the NHS, the National English Honor Society, the Rho Kappa Honor Society (for history), the Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society (for math), the Tri-M Honor Society (for music), the Book Club, the Art Club, and the OARS Club Rowing Team. I help teach rowing in the summer and I also love to babysit.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I plan on attending college in Florida and majoring in architecture or engineering with a minor in digital design or some other kind of art; I’ve always wanted to be a Disney Imagineer.
Have you participated in any other Music for All or Bands of America events before? If so, which ones?
I’ve performed with my high school band at BOA Orlando at Camping World Stadium twice (2019 and 2021) and BOA Grand Nationals at Lucas Oil Stadium once (2019).
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I’m a military child; my Dad served in the Air Force for nearly 25 years and retired in 2017. Because of that, I’ve moved nine times in seventeen years and never lived anywhere more than 4 years. I love having friends all over the world.
