Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!

Name: Sydney Peters

Hometown: Lexington, KY

Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?

I applied to be a member of the honor band because I wanted to give myself a challenge and step out of my comfort zone. I also wanted to meet new people that have similar interests as I do.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?

I am most excited about performing at Disney Land and marching in the Rose Bowl Parade.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?

I have learned that when you work hard and use determination you can succeed at anything you want. I have also learned that we are not just a lot of different sections we are all a team who works together. Finally, I have also learned that you should always reach for your goals no matter the circumstance.

To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school music program?

My favorite memory was my sophomore year we attended a BOA regional in Tennessee. This was the first time our band went to a BOA regional in a long time. That entire week building up to the competition the band and guard started working together as one which allowed us to get stronger. After our prelims performance we found out we made finals, and that night during the finals run was the best show I personally did that season and one of the best shows as a band, my favorite part of this was when we found out we won first place but rather than being caught up in winning, the members of our guard and band went to the next band and congratulated them.

What activities and clubs are you involved in?

I am involved in color guard, winter guard, national beta club, and national honors society.

What are your post-graduation plans?
After graduation, I would like to continue guard in DCI, with my college guard, and with an independent winter guard. I am also planning on attending college where I want to receive my bachelor’s in elementary education with a double major in business.

Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?

Yes, I have participated at the Johnson City, Tennessee BOA regional in 2019
