Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!
Name: Emma Gottschalk
Hometown: Houma, LA
Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?
My band director, Mr. Brad Adams, invited me to audition. I was honored and so excited that I was recommended for such a prestigious opportunity. I love a challenge.
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about meeting new musicians, making friends, and learning new skills from instructors and peers.
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?
Teamwork is of great importance and so are the relationships we form as a band family. I’ve also learned the value of having fun!
To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?
My favorite memory is performing at the WGI World Championships as a cymbalist in my school’s indoor percussion ensemble. Our show entitled “Bringers of Light” was named among the top 10 in our class. It was an exhilarating experience for us, a memory that will stay with me forever.
What activities and clubs are you involved in?
I am involved in Marching Band, Concert Band, Indoor Percussion Ensemble, Art Club, and National Honor Society at Vandebilt Catholic High School. I have been a member of parish and district honor bands for several years. In addition, I have been a volunteer for elementary band events, and I currently tutor beginning flutists in a private setting.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I plan to attend Nicholls State University and pursue a degree in music. I also plan to continue to offer beginning flute lessons to elementary school musicians. Furthermore, I’m definitely hoping to be a part of my high school band program for many years to come, maybe as a staff member or volunteer.
Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?
This will be my first experience, and I am super excited!
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I’m an Irish/Cajun girl who is passionate about art and music. I also enjoy the art and craftsmanship of cosplay.
