Music for All’s Bands of America Honor Band will march in The Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2022 in Pasadena, California. With more than 300 members, this national honor band will represent school band programs across America. Meet the members!

Why did you apply to be a member of the Honor Band?

I heard about the honor band at a BOA Super Regional in 2019 and thought it would be super cool to be a part of a national band. I like getting to meet new people so I thought it would be a great opportunity for me.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?

I think I’m most excited about getting to perform in the super cool uniforms and getting to see the parade floats up close. I was always fascinated with the rose parade when I was younger because of how creative the floats are and being an artist and a creative person myself when I saw we were going to see them I got very excited.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in your high school music program?

I’ve learned some great leadership qualities as I’m on the student leadership team for my schools program. I’ve learned the importance of teamwork and how it helps if you enjoy the people you’re working with. And last but not least I’ve learned that perseverance and hard work make all the difference in an activity such as marching band.

To date, what is your favorite memory of being involved in your high school band program?

I would say my favorite memory is from recently at our state marching competition. Texas Bands are crazy competitive and just getting to travel to San Antonio (for the second time) with my friends, and even my brother, was just a great experience. I feel like just getting to be at state was so much more important than any score or placement we could have gotten.

What activities and clubs are you involved in?

I am involved with my local Girl Scout troop. My troop likes to travel a lot and earlier this summer we went to Colorado for a backpacking trip in the mountains.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I haven’t exactly thought about it much but I do know I’d like to study psychology.

Have you participated in any Music for All or Bands of America activities before? If so, which ones?

My band performs at a few regional BOA competitions and we go to the BOA San Antonio Super Regional competition every year.

Tell us something unique about yourself.

I am somewhat of an artist. I like to draw and I am taking a ceramics class this year. I have had some of my art pieces make it in a couple of art shows in the past. I love to go camping and I love the outdoors. I’m very adventurous and I live for the excitement.
